2. Jay Wright

The Sixers may not have the adequate personnel for it just yet, but their next head coach needs to be forward-thinking on the offensive end. Not much will change until Embiid and Simmons prove they can expand their range, or until the Sixers surround them with enough 3-point shooting for it to no longer matter, but either way, their new head coach needs to understand modern basketball.

Considering Jay Wright’s Villanova teams already run NBA-caliber offensive sets, he’d be quite a terrific option if he’d truly consider leaving college basketball.

Unlike other NBA vacancies, the Sixers vacancy might be more appealing to Wright since it wouldn’t require him to uproot his life (Villanova, Pennsylvania is only about 20 minutes away from Philadelphia). He’d be a local name, and his resume at the college level is impressive enough to suggest his transition to the pros would be relatively seamless.

Whenever this type of NBA speculation has come up in the past, Wright has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain at Villanova, where he’s won two championships over the last four years. However, there’s no question about how well he prepares his Wildcats for the NBA level, and if he were ever to be tempted to make the jump to the NBA, this would probably be the situation to do it.
