Raiders honor greats at camp on Monday morning in awesome tribute

The Las Vegas Raiders honored some of the franchise’s greatest players during practice on Monday donning their jerseys at training camp.

The Las Vegas Raiders honored their all-time greats from their Oakland and Los Angeles days during Monday’s practice, donning their names and numbers on the team’s practice jerseys.

With the team kicking off its inaugural season in Sin City, the move is a fantastic nod to the past and an acknowledgement of the franchise’s proud history.

The team shared photos of the practice jerseys via its official Twitter account, with players wearing the jerseys of former Raiders at their positions. Ken Stabler, Bo Jackson, Gene Upshaw, and Jim Otto were among the players honored for their contributions to the franchise.

With the Raiders unveiling the brand-new Allegiant Stadium and adding rookie speedster Henry Ruggs to the offense in 2020, fans new and old have every reason to be excited about the team’s future.

Ownership clearly feels the need to endear itself to a new city and new fans, however, with the team sending out a mini replica of the new stadium as part of a fantastic season ticket package.

After winning three Super Bowls and establishing themselves as a proud franchise outside of Las Vegas, there will be pressure for head coach Jon Gruden and company to see results quickly. Donning the names and numbers of Hall of Famers in practice may only add more pressure, as the Raiders look to avoid the same relocation problems that the division rival Chargers have faced.

Regardless, the gesture is a magnificent one, and the perfect move from a public relations standpoint. By marrying the histories of the franchise in two separate locations, the Raiders can ensure that old fans in Oakland stay loyal and new ones in Las Vegas gain interest.

The Raiders are set to kick off their inaugural season in Las Vegas on Sunday, September 13, against the Carolina Panthers before christening Allegiant Stadium on Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints a week later.
