Below are five reasons why the 49ers can not only get back to the Super Bowl but win this time.

In his third season as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Kyle Shanahan cooked up his best year yet. His offense finished with the second-most points scored (479) behind the Baltimore Ravens, and Robert Saleh coached a top-10 defense.

Finishing the season with a 13-3 record, the Niners entered the playoffs as the NFC West division champions and owned the first seed in the NFC postseason picture.

In the playoffs, it was old school football that got the team into the Super Bowl. Saleh had the defense flying, and Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo rode the run game hard.

Although, all of that was for not. The 49ers blew a lead late in the Super Bowl to the eventual champion Kansas City Chiefs, which raised speculation around Garoppolo’s future with the team after he missed big throws on the largest stage.

As of right now, the 2020 season has the green light, and here are five reasons why the 49ers can get back the game’s biggest stage and lift the Lombardi Trophy at season’s end.

5. Kyle Shanahan

Garoppolo was not the only person to receive blame after the Super Bowl debacle. And, truthfully, he didn’t get as much criticism as his head coach did. This was the second championship game Shanahan had squandered. He was the offensive coordinator for the infamous Atlanta Falcons in 2016.

Unfortunately for Shanahan, and with some fair reasoning, his game managing in both Super Bowls has marred his otherwise brilliant reputation to design trendsetting offenses.

Forget the Super Bowls and focus on the rest of Shanahan’s career. By doing so, you should be optimistic that the Niners will once again be one of the league’s best in 2020.

Shanahan has been the mind behind some of the highest-scoring units in the NFL in each stop he has made. He and his quarterback will want to silence those critics, so this upcoming season we could see a very locked in head coach and gunslinger.

The 40-year-old demonstrated what he could do with this unit last year. Expect an even more inspired effort this season.
