Jamal Crawford wants to play his 21st NBA season in 2020.

When the Brooklyn Nets inked Jamal Crawford to bolster their roster following several big names either being ruled out of the rest of the season due to injury or a positive COVID-19 test, the basketball world rejoiced, as Crawford remains one of the better backup shooting guards available on the market despite his advanced age. Crawford finally got some game action in 2019-20, but he doesn’t want that to be his swan song.

Crawford, undaunted by the fact that he’s 40 years old and his 19th season lasted all of one game before he suffered an injury, claimed that he is looking to play again in 2020.

Jamal Crawford hooked up with the Nets in the Orlando bubble

Crawford was picked eighth overall in 2000 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but his rights were sent to the Chicago Bulls in a draft-day trade. Crawford has become a bit of journeyman, averaging 14.6 points per game for nine different teams in 20 seasons. His best years came with the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers, both of whom got five seasons out of the ultra-smooth guard.

While Crawford has yet to make an All-Star team, he is in the running for best Sixth Man of all time. Only Crawford, Lou Williams, and Dell Curry have scored 10,000 points off of the bench. He has been named Sixth Man of the Year three times in his career, and two of those wins came during his stint with the Clippers.

Crawford was one of the Nets’ emergency signings after several heavy hitters didn’t travel to the Orlando bubble. While he helped the Nets pull of one of the biggest regular-season upsets ever, he played in just six minutes of game action due to an injury.

Crawford will leap at any and every chance to play the game he loves. Even at age 40, Crawford’s smooth jumper and ability to slash to the rim could make him a solid option at the end of the bench.
