Watch the filthiest pitches from Lucas Giolito’s no-hitter (Video)

Lucas Giolito’s no-hitter included 13 strikeouts of Pirates hitters
Sure, the Pirates fielded a lineup that featured exactly one player hitting above .230, but Lucas Giolito still made all of them look like little leaguers. The White Sox ace demonstrated once again why he’s one of he better-known up-and-comers in all of baseball, and Tuesday night was his moment.
The White Sox have 19 no-hitters in franchise history, a statistic that will baffle fans of most MLB teams, but Giolito’s 13 strikeouts were the most in a ChiSox no-no…ever. That means Giolito was especially filthy, and one look at the highlights shows just that.

Giolito’s changeup was just one of the pitches he had working against the Pirates
Yes, that’s three changeups to one of the better power hitters in all of the National League. Josh Bell is having a rough 2020 season, sure, but one mistake to him will have said baseball floating in the Allegheny River in no time. Giolito went back to his changeup time and time again when he needed it, and even had Bell known what was coming, it wouldn’t have mattered.
Giolito is also a pro at pitch sequencing, and this fastball, changeup, slider combination is nearly unhittable when he’s on his location. That was not a problem on Tuesday by a long shot.
When all else fails, go back to the changeup.

In all, Giolito got 30 swings and misses in his no-no, the second-most since 1990. First on that list is Nolan Ryan, who got 31 in his no-hitter of the Oakland Athletics that season.
