Tony Jefferson has NSFW response when asked about joining Browns
By Mark Powell
The Browns reputation precedes them, despite the talent that’s on the roster in 2020
The Ravens cut Tony Jefferson back in February, and he hasn’t been able to find a new home just yet. Despite having some limited options, the veteran safety isn’t willing to stoop down to the Cleveland Browns’ level. The Browns, of course, need safety help as Grant Delpit is now out for the season with a torn achilles. The rookie has a promising future, but Cleveland now lacks depth at the position.
So, Jefferson would seem like a natural fit, no? He enters his age-28 season coming off injury, but nonetheless started 19 games for the Ravens over the past two years. When asked straight up, though, Jefferson doesn’t seem interested in any sort of role in Cleveland.
Why is Jefferson so anti-Browns?
We’re used to pundits and fans trashing Cleveland, but from a players’ point of view, that seems unlikely. If anything, he could’ve been referring to the idea of playing for one of the Ravens’ rivals just months after his release by Baltimore. Should that be the case, we respect his point.
The Browns have plenty of talent accumulated on both sides of the ball. On defense, however, they now have some obvious holes in their secondary with Delpit and Greedy Williams out for the foreseeable future. The acquisition of Jefferson could’ve helped matters, but he’d rather take his chances elsewhere, even though he’s yet to be connected to any other openings in free agency.
Perhaps he knows something the experts don’t.
