Lionel Messi may be eventually heading to MLS in a potential new deal.

There is a great deal of drama taking place overseas as Lionel Messi wants out of his contract with FC Barcelona. He has been with the club for his entire professional career and has been in the organization since he was a teenager.

Now he wants some change and Manchester City is reportedly interested. That club has some of the deepest pockets of any professional sports team and the money thrown around may make owners in the states faint. There are also unique clauses thrown into contracts and the one being rumored between City and Messi features a move to MLS?

Lionel Messi could be coming to America

The report is a bit convoluted, but the main point is Manchester City wants Messi to become a club ambassador and play for New York City FC after three years in England. Messi turned 33 years old this past June so this deal would have him coming to America as his career comes to a close.

This would be quite the victory for the league and would keep up with the theme of adding top European stars nearing the end of their careers. Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic stand out as others who have done the same.

The first step is getting Messi out of Barcelona. That could reportedly cost Manchester City hundreds of millions, but it apparently worth it in their eyes to land the living legend.
