MLB Players’ Alliance to donate salaries on Jackie Robinson Day.

The MLB Players’ Alliance took a big step to show solidarity with the issues that Black men and women in Ameria and around the world face but donating their salaries over the course of two days when baseball honors Jackie Robinson, the first Black baseball player to participate in MLB.

The statement comes just one day after many MLB teams and all of the NBA took a solidarity strike to bring awareness to the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, WI.

“The color of our skin is the uniform we wear every day,” the statement reads. “We cannot change that. What we can change is the pain and injustice the Black community has suffered for far too long. We are determined to use our platform to speak out, and encourage our teammates and fans to help make our voices even louder.”

What is the MLB Players’ Alliance?

The MLB Players’ Alliance is made up of more than 100 current and former Black players and, according to their website, is “focused on building equitable systems in order to change the trajectory of diversity throughout baseball.”

Jackie Robinson Day takes place on Aug. 27 and Aug. 28.

The alliance also urged other players to do the same.
