The NHL is reportedly planning to postpone Thursday’s games.

The Milwaukee Bucks started a movement by beginning a strike and not taking the floor Wednesday afternoon in Orlando. The rest of the NBA followed and several MLB teams joined in as well. The NHL playoffs continued on as normal.

This led to harsh criticism from several players, including most notably Evander Kane. The tricky thing for the NHL right now is that there are only a handful of teams remaining in the playoffs. They are all up in Canada as well and players not there have to work from home to try and organize.

A new report claims the NHL is in fact planning to postpone Thursday’s games.

NHL making a smart move

A final decision is still being made this afternoon, but it appears the league is trending toward taking the night off. This will draw outrage from the same people who claim they will never watch again, but their complaints are not important right now.

The call to postpone was made more official in a tweet sent out by Kane, who is part of the Hockey Diversity Alliance.

It shouldn’t be up to professional athletes to be forced to call attention to such human rights issues. But they should still be commended for doing so and leagues are finding out they can no longer silence players on these issues. Not when everyone is united as one.

Regardless of what you may see on social media, one night off is not going to tank the NHL ratings or cause the league to lose popularity. What it will do is call attention to why the players were forced to take this drastic stop, not just in the NHL but all over professional sports.
