5. Randy Moss, WR

What a debut. In Week 1 of the 1998 season, the Minnesota Vikings hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Metrodome.

The club’s first-round draft choice, wide receiver Randy Moss from Marshall University, had his way with Tony Dungy’s team and secondary. Dennis Green’s squad would roll to a 31-7 victory and Moss would haul in four passes for 95 yards and two scores covering 48 and 31 yards, respectively.

The Vikings were on the way to a 15-1 campaign, one that would eventually reach the NFC title game. The team would set a new NFL record for points scored in a season (556). Moss would earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors with 69 catches, 1,313 yards and 17 touchdowns. In his first seven years, the Pro Football Hall of Fame wideout rolled up 574 receptions for 9,142 yards and 90 TDs.

Moss’ travels would take him to the Raiders, Patriots, Titans, back to the Vikings and eventually the 49ers. He did set a league record with 23 touchdown grabs in 2007 with New England. And only fellow Hall of Famer Jerry Rice (197) has more career TD receptions than Moss (156). Those early days in Minnesota were special indeed.
