Randal Grichuk helped the Blue Jays win in extra innings with a walk-off home run.

When Hanser Alberto singled to shallow right center to bring in Rio Ruiz for the go-ahead run at the top of the 10th inning, it appeared as though the Baltimore Orioles were about to pull off an impressive comeback with a 4-3 victory on Friday.

Instead, Randal Grichuk played the role of spoiler in the bottom of the 10th, cranking one out with a man on base to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 5-4 win on a walk-off home run.

With that 411-foot beauty, Grichuk moved the Blue Jays to 16-14 on the season while dropping Baltimore to 14-17.

Randal Grichuk came up big for the Blue Jays in Friday’s game

Reese McGuire had already made it to second base, putting the tying run in scoring position for the Blue Jays. Joe Panik’s pop-out bunt and Cavan Biggio lining out to center gave Toronto two outs, but with his back against the wall and the Blue Jays just one out away from a loss, Grichuk delivered on a 1-0 count with the walk-off homer.

This helped Toronto stave off Baltimore’s comeback attempt with an extra innings-comeback of its own. The Blue Jays had led 2-0 up until the 6th inning, then held a 3-2 advantage until the 8th inning. The Orioles tied up the game on a Renato Nunez home run in the top of the 8th, forcing extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, Baltimore drew blood first thanks to Alberto, but that 4-3 lead was undone thanks to McGuire and one swing of Grichuk’s bat.
