8. DE Buck Buchanan

He was part of a Super Bowl winning defense in 1969 that would eventually land six of its starters in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

End Buck Buchanan was a huge part (6-foot-7, 270) of a defensive front included fellow Culp. There was Curley Culp, linebackers Bobby bell and Willie Lanier, cornerback Emmitt Thomas as well as safety Johnny Robinson. They were part of a unit that pummeled quarterback Joe Kapp and the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7, into submission at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans and Super Bowl IV.

“The only thing I ever tried to do as a football player was be consistent,” explained Buchanan (via the Pro Football Hall of Fame). “I never did a lot of spectacular kinds of things. But when we graded out year in and year out, week in and week out, my grades were right there, and that’s what I prided myself on.”

The 13-year pro apparently succeeded and Kansas City’s defense was traditionally solid with him in the lineup. The Grambling State product never missed a game during his brilliant career and was a steady force for the franchise. The eight-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.
