6. G Will Shields

He never missed a game during his 12 seasons in the NFL. Guard Will Shields was a third-round draft choice by the Chiefs in 1993 and the 74th-overall selection that year courtesy of the University of Nebraska.

In Week 1 during his rookie campaign, the former Cornhusker played vs. the Buccaneers but was not in the opening lineup. That would change a week later at Houston and the streak would reach 223 consecutive regular-season starts.

He was a standout on a quality office of line that also employed fellow Pro Football Hall of Fame tackle Willie Roaf for four seasons (2002-05).

As for Shields, he would be named to the Pro Bowl in each of his final 12 campaigns and also earned All-Pro honors in both 2002 and ’03. Along with Roaf, the 6-foot-3, 315-pound force up front played with the likes of standouts such as tackle John Alt, fellow guard Dave Szott and center Tim Grunhard.

“To me, that was the biggest piece; being accountable to the guys you were playing with” explained Shields (via the Pro Football Hall of Fame). “You wanted to perform at a high level, and (by playing in every game) you got a chance to do that.”
