2. Tom Brady – Most Passing TDs All-Time

Current Record Holder: Drew Brees (547), 2001-Present

If you’re sick of seeing Tom Brady and Drew Brees in this analysis — tough feces. They deserve it.

Of all the records that could reasonably change hands, this one would be the most exciting. As it stands, Drew Brees tops Tom Brady in all-time touchdown passes by a meager six scores. The temptation is to think, “Brees is a volume-based thrower. He won’t be topped.” The first aspect of that is true, the latter part is false.

Would it be odd for Tom Brady to finish the 2020 season with 35 touchdown passes and Brees with 28? Absolutely not. Hence, this record is in profound jeopardy.

There are two other gripping aspects to this record-chase. First, the two legends could quite easily play hot-potato with the record — in real-time. If Brady sprinted to a hot start with the Buccaneers and Brees’ start to the season was pedestrian, Brady could catch up to Brees in no time. That scenario would be akin to boxers throwing haymakers in a tussle for one of the most esteemed records in NFL history.

And that’s not all. Brady and Brees will play each other twice in 2020. The Buccaneers and Saints are division bedfellows, so the record could change hands within the same game if the cosmos allowed for it.
