Phillies slugger Andrew McCutchen honors MLB legend Jackie Robinson on Friday night after he blasted a huge homer.
There will never be another player in Major League Baseball quite like Jackie Robinson. The first African American player in the bigs, Robinson remains a hero to so many players out there to this day. The list includes Philadelphia Phillies slugger Andrew McCutchen.
On Friday night, with Philadelphia taking on Atlanta, McCutchen delivered for the Phillies, blasting a clutch home run in the bottom of the third inning. Following that homer, while rocking Robinson’s famous No. 42, McCutchen decided to honor him as well.

Andrew McCutchen was one of the many stars to honor Jackie Robinson on Friday
As you can see in the video above, McCutchen went yard, then reached for the Jackie Robinson arm patch on his jersey while crossing home plate. It’s been 73 years since Robinson made his historic debut in the bigs, breaking the color barrier. He opened the door for the game to be changed forever.
On Friday, MLB held its annual ‘Jackie Robinson Day’ which includes all the players wearing No. 42 on their jerseys. This is something McCutchen and so many other MLB stars do with great pride, as they have all the respect and admiration in the world for the late Robinson.
McCutchen’s two-run homer put the Phillies up early. The two teams couldn’t end things in nine innings, though, with extra frames required. In the end, however, the Phillies were able to come out on top. Well after the game, McCutchen’s homer and the way he paid tribute to Robinson continues to be discusses. It surely was a special moment.

Ever since he arrived in Philadelphia, McCutchen has been a fan favorite in the city. He continues to do damage at the plate as well, which is something the Braves saw first hand on Friday.
