As the Angels look set to sell approaching Monday’s trade deadline, interest in Dylan Bundy is ramping up.

Entering Saturday, the Los Angeles Angels are 11-22 and in last place in the AL West (11.5 games out). They are lined up to be a seller as Monday’s trade deadline gets closer, and according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network the Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves are among the teams with interest in starter Dylan Bundy.

Bundy has found something this year, with a change in his pitch mix driving a 2.58 ERA, a 10.3 K/9 (44 strikeouts) and a 1.9 BB/9 (eight walks) over his first six starts (38.1 innings). His last two outings have been a little rough, as he’s allowed eight runs (six earned) over a total of 9.2 innings to raise his ERA just over a run in that span (1.57 to 2.58). Two starts ago, he walked four to account for half of his walks on the season.

With team control remaining for 2021, Bundy would not purely be a rental for a contending team. That should bolster the Angels’ return in a deal, as they try to stock up their fairly barren cupboard of young talent. His last two starts could easily be a red flag for some teams, but Morosi’s report suggests that’s not necessarily the case. Pitching always comes at a premium at the trade deadline, and the Angels are in a position to cash in .

Dylan Bundy is getting final trade deadline showcase

In a case of what can only be good timing, Bundy is scheduled to start against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night. He has faced them twice this season, with 18 strikeouts and just two walks over 15 total innings over what was back-to-back starts. On Aug. 6 in Seattle, he threw his third career complete game as he allowed one run on four hits with 10 strikeouts and zero walks.

As final trade deadline showcases go, with first pitch scheduled at 9:40 p.m. ET, Bundy is getting a favorable one as the Angels presumably field trade offers. If he gets scratched from the start, that’s a sure sign a trade is coming.
