Cody Bellinger might need to have an awkward conversation with Lance Lynn
Is Bellinger trying to lower Lynn’s trade value? Recent rumors connecting the Dodgers to the Texas Rangers ace suggest that could be the case, as Lynn is a trade target. The addition of such a high-profile starter would make Los Angeles’ already-dangerous rotation terrifying for the rest of the National League.
Bellinger, along with 2019 NL MVP runner-up Christian Yelich, have failed to reach those same heights in a shortened 2020 season. Belli is hitting just .221 entering Saturday’s game, but his power has picked up as of late, as he hit two home runs against the Angels a few weeks ago and a walk-off blast to beat the Rockies recently. Perhaps a bomb off Lynn is exactly what Bellinger needs to get his mojo back.

Can the Dodgers realistically acquire Lance Lynn?
Los Angeles has the prospects to pay up for the best starter on the market, and Texas should absolutely be looking to sell high on him. Lynn has one more season remaining on his contract after this one, and he’ll make $8 million. With no salary cap in play, that’s well within the Dodgers price range.
Now, do the Dodgers need Lynn? No, not at all. The Dodgers are stacked from top to bottom. An argument could be made for a bullpen upgrade given their postseason failures of years past, but the rotation is definitely not an area of need. That being said, if Lynn is readily available, why not make the call?
