The Formula 1 driver paid tribute to the late actor on Saturday

2020 hasn’t been too kind to many of us, which makes the news of actor Chadwick Boseman’s passing that much more difficult to process and comprehend. Boseman, who played the lead role in the hit Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Black Panther,” passed away on Friday after a four-year battle with colon cancer. He was only 43 years old. Tributes have poured in throughout social media to send their condolences to Boseman’s wife and family.

On Saturday, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton decided to honor Boseman in a memorable way. Prior to the Belgium Grand Prix qualifiers, Hamilton stood on top of his car and performed the “Wakanda Forever” pose made famous in the “Black Panther” film. After qualifying on pole position, Hamilton said in his headset “that one was for Chadwick.”

After the qualifiers, Hamilton posted a touching tribute to the late actor and “true superhero” in a moving tweet.

Hamilton was one of many sports stars to honor Boseman

Hamilton wasn’t the only star in sports to honor Boseman. Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck the “Wakanda Forever” pose after scoring the opening goal in the team’s Community Shield match against Liverpool. Prior to Game 5 between the Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic, the NBA paid tribute to Boseman with an on-screen graphic.

Boseman was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer back in 2016, but it sadly progressed to Stage IV earlier this year. Despite the diagnosis four years ago, Boseman continued to take on acting roles, especially in the physically-demanding role of T’Challa in “Black Panther.” Other notable roles Boseman played was baseball player Jackie Robinson in “42” and singer James Brown in “Get on Up.”
