Nick Markakis recorded some impressive personal history on Saturday, passing Babe Ruth in career doubles.

Whenever you’re able to say you’re better than Babe Ruth at something, you know you’re a pretty darn good baseball player. Such is the case for Atlanta Braves right fielder Nick Markakis, who recorded a major new feat on Saturday.

In the middle of the Braves showdown with the Phillies, Markakis roped a ball to left field that almost left the park. Instead, it bounced off the bottom of the wall and he raced into second for a double.

Entering that at-bat, he was actually tied with Ruth on the all-time MLB doubles list. Now, he can confidently say he stands on top of ‘The Babe.’

Nick Markakis is now in 58th place for the most doubles in MLB history

With that double, Markakis now has 507 to his name, while Ruth is at 506. Those 507 doubles now has Markakis ranked 58th on the all-time list. That’s pretty darn impressive.

The lefty has been with Atlanta since 2015, joining the club after spending the first nine years of his career in the AL East with the Baltimore Orioles. He’s been a consistent bat for Atlanta, which has continued this summer.

In 2020, Markakis is hitting .318 in 15 games played. As of this writing, Atlanta is 18-13 on the year and in first place of the NL East standings. With so much talent across the board, the Braves have hopes of getting back to the World Series. Markakis will play a major role in if that happens or not.

With Markakis swinging an impressive bat, look for the Braves to keep on making plenty of noise the rest of the way.
