Dustin Johnson makes miraculous putt to force playoff at BMW (Video)
Dustin Johnson’s 43-foot putt forced a playoff with Jon Rahm at the BMW Championship.
Jon Rahm was warming up on the practice range, preparing for a potential playoff at the BMW Championship, but it didn’t appear like it would be necessary.
His closest competitor was Dustin Johnson, who was a shot back and on the green on the 18th but facing an almost impossible putt for birdie. He was 43 feet away and had to contend with a ridge separating his ball from the pin.
Johnson and his caddie, brother Austin, carefully surveyed the putt from all angles. If he made it, he would tie Rahm; a miss, which seemed more than likely, and Rahm would be the champion at Olympia Fields.
Johnson picked out his line, carefully hit the putt to the top of the ridge, watched as it took a big right-hand break downhill then cut back to the left. It struck the middle of the flagstick and fell in, the longest putt Johnson had made all week.

Dustin Johnson’s miraculous putt forced a playoff
Johnson tied Rahm at four-under for the tournament and forced a sudden-death playoff beginning on the 18th. If Johnson wins, he’ll lead the way to the FedEx Cup final next week at the Tour Championship, with Rahm in third; if Rahm wins, he’ll move up to second, right behind Johnson. They’re also the top-two players on the World Golf Rankings.
