Lance Lynn isn’t the only star the Rangers are shopping

The Texas Rangers might be moving Lance Lynn and/or Joey Gallo by Monday.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, “In addition to Lance Lynn, the Texas Rangers have been discussing outfielder Joey Gallo in potential trades, sources tell ESPN. The price on both is high, and it’s why one GM said ‘the Rangers hold the keys to the deadline.’ If they do sell, it’s impact guys in pennant races.”
What are the chances the Rangers part ways with both of their stars?

Could Lance Lynn and Joey Gallo be in new uniforms by this time tomorrow?
Despite being in third place in the AL West, a 12-20 record wasn’t going to cut it for Texas. The Rangers are 2-8 in their last 10 ballgames and a dreadful 3-11 away from their brand-new grill of a ballpark. Texas was thought to push for a postseason berth, but it’s looking increasingly likely that they’ll be sellers, if anything, ahead of Monday afternoon’s MLB trade deadline. Will be both gone?
Lynn might be the more likely player to be dealt. At 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA through eight starts, the 33-year-old right-hander might be the best pitcher on the trading block. With the postseason rapidly approaching, teams that are sure to be in it might want to land a savvy veteran who has plenty of big-game experience in his nine-year big league career. He did win a World Series back in 2011.
As for Gallo, it would tough for the Rangers to part ways with him. Unlike Lynn, he is a homegrown product. The Rangers drafted him in the first round out of high school back in 2012. He has been an everyday player for them since 2017. Though he was a first-time All-Star last season, he only appeared in 70 games for the Rangers. However, he did play in 30 of 32 this year, so that’s good.

Interestingly enough, neither are hitting free agency this offseason. Lynn is under contract through 2022. Gallo is arbitration eligible in 2021, but won’t be hitting his unrestricted free agency until 2023. So if the Rangers are going to give up either big-name player at the deadline, it won’t come cheap. The good news is the Rangers hold all the cards for how the deadline will shake out.
There is a decent chance we could see one, if not both players dealt before tomorrow’s deadline.
