Roman Reigns took his time getting into the match but once he did, he walked out with the WWE Universal championship.

One week ago, WWE capped off the summer with their annual SummerSlam showcase. The action continued through the second PPV in as many weeks with WWE Payback. The big story heading into the night was the return of Roman Reigns which not only occurred but was one of many big moments throughout the show.

The main event of the evening was around the WWE Universal title. Braun Strowman faced off against the Fiend and Roman Reigns in what was scheduled to be a triple threat match. Strowman attacked Wyatt before the match officially began and things got brutal from the very jump. Wyatt and Strowman battled all around the ring even before Reigns would introduce himself into the match.

Strowman and Wyatt battled for an extended period before things went left. Wyatt hit a super plex on Strowman that caused the ring to collapse. As both men laid in a heap, Reigns walked to the ring and attempted to make the pin. Both Wyatt and Strowman would kick out, but that would not stop Reigns from hitting a spear on Strowman to secure the pin fall and the title.

The bad luck of Sasha Banks and Bayley continued. They faced the makeshift team of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. Banks and Bayley were the champions and came into this match with a long-standing relationship. Yet Baszler and Jax were on the right page to get the title in their victory. The duo did a great job isolating Jax at the start of the match, but once Baszler got into the ring, she began to destroy the two champions. The ending came when Baszler had both women locked in submission holds. Bayley was the legal woman and when she tapped out, the titles went over to the challengers.

Bobby Lashley wins WWE United States title

Apollo Crews has been dealing with the Hurt Business for months on end and that continued Sunday. Unfortunately for Crews that situation ended with Bobby Lashley taking the US title off his waist. Lashley’s power came into play for much of the match as he was able to dominate the smaller man for much of the contest. Crews did all he could to overcome that and the numbers game, but it was a matter of time before Lashley put him in the Full Lashley to finish him off, becoming the new champion.

Keith Lee was welcomed to the main roster and right into a feud with Randy Orton. They faced off in a one-on-one match to finish up what started on Monday. Lee put on a display of athletic abilities that included power and quickness that Orton was unable to keep up with. Orton’s experience came into play as he hit a DDT as Lee tried to climb back into the ring. But he would be reversed when he tried to go for the RKO, allowing for Lee to hit the Spirt Bomb and pick up the victory.
