1. C/LB Chuck Bednarik

He was the last “60 Minute Man” in the National Football League. Linebacker and center Chuck Bednarik played a total of 14 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and made his presence felt on both sides of the ball.

The eight-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro was a member of two NFL championship teams with the franchise (1949 and 1960) and was part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 1967.

“Dick Butkus was the one who manhandled people,” explained former Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive back Tom Brookshier, who was Bednarik’s teammate for seven seasons in an interview with Sports Illustrated in 1993 (courtesy of Richard Goldstein of the New York Times). “Chuck just snapped them down like rag dolls…He had such a sense for the game. You could do all that shifting and put all those men in motion, and Chuck still went right where the ball was.”

The rangy Bednarik totaled 20 interceptions and 15 fumble recoveries during his days with the Eagles. He brought a steady intensity to his craft and his passion for the game was on full display for years after his career ended.
