Will Alabama football win another National Championship in 2020?
The 2019 season was supposed to be about Tua Tagovailoa leading Alabama football to one last crack at a National Championship before heading for the greener pastures of the NFL. Unfortunately, Nick Sabanās club did not experience a stroke of good fortune as they tried to bring more hardware back to Tuscaloosa.
When Tagovailoa was healthy, the Crimson Tide offense looked unstoppable, even if the defense was lesser than previous iterations after the preseason loss of Dylan Moses due to injury. However, the sweet-slinging quarterback suffered a sprained ankle that kept him out against Arkansas. He returned quickly, though, to face a juggernaut LSU team and, despite a heroic effort, Alabama fell short.
Even after the tough defeat, Sabanās team still had an outside shot at the College Football Playoff and the SEC Championship Game. That, however, went by the wayside when Tua suffered a season-ending and career-threatening hip injury against Mississippi State.
That injury put Mac Jones in at quarterback and, though he performed well, his insertion coupled with the lackluster defense led to a loss in the Iron Bowl, ending their SEC hopes. Still, Jones and the Tide went on to the Citrus Bowl where they thoroughly outclassed Michigan a 35-16 victory.
Though Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III, among others, are now gone, Alabama football is in a phenomenal position to climb to the mountaintop once again in the 2020 season. Theyāre littered with talent on both sides of the ball and, of course, Saban is still patrolling the sidelines. So just how far will the Crimson Tide go in 2020? Letās take a deep dive into what this team will look like this year.
