Texas football, Oklahoma football expected to win big for Big 12 football.
Week 1 lines are out for Big 12 football teams like Texas football and Oklahoma State football.
According to SportsBetting.ag, the Texas Longhorns open as a massive 42-point favorite over the UTEP Miners in their Week 1 matchup. The Oklahoma State Cowboys will be laying 21 points at home to the visiting Tulsa Golden Hurricane in their 2020 college football season open as well. Should we be the least surprised? Here are the latest lines for Week 1 Big 12 football action.
Should Texas football, Oklahoma State football be laying that many points?
Big 12 football Week 1 betting lines
- Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at Kansas Jayhawks (-3)
- Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at No. 23 Iowa State Cyclones (-11.5)
- UTEP Miners at No. 14 Texas Longhorns (-42)
- Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Baylor Bears (-17.5)
- Tulsa Golden Hurricane at No. 15 Oklahoma State Cowboys (-21)
Though all 10 Big 12 teams will be in play on Saturday, Sept. 12, three programs will be playing against an FCS opponent, so there is no line available for Missouri State Bears at No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners game, the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at West Virginia Mountaineers game or the Houston Baptist Huskies at Texas Tech Red Raiders game.
It should be noted two other games involving Big 12 opponents on Saturday, Sept. 12 do not have betting lines associated to them yet. Those games are the Arkansas State Red Wolves at the Kansas State Wildcats and the SMU Mustangs at the TCU Horned Frogs. So of the five games with lines on them, where do you stand the best chance to make some money in two weekends?
Stay away from the Kansas Jayhawks’ home opener vs. the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers because KU football can never be trusted, especially if they are laying only a field goal at home. Just sit back and watch the Les Miles chewing grass chaos ensue. This will be the greatest awful football game of the Big 12 slate opening weekend. Book it.
Though Billy Napier is an excellent head coach for the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns, so is Matt Campbell with the Iowa State Cyclones. While one would think laying on 11.5 points feels like we’re giving the Ragin’ Cajuns too much credit, Iowa State is a defensive-minded football team. Then again, the Cyclones have Brock Purdy at quarterback, so take ISU to win and cover all day.
Laying 42 is a ton for anybody, but UTEP is one of the worst teams in the FBS. If Texas wants to prove to us the Longhorns are ready to think about maybe being back again, they need to beat the snot out of the Miners and not allow Heisman Trophy hopeful Sam Ehlinger to play a snap in the second half. Can the Longhorns beat anyone by 42 points? Swallow them and let’s find out.
The Baylor Bears begin a new era with Dave Aranda as their head coach. While Baylor nearly made it to the College Football Playoff a season ago, it’ll be very difficult for the Bears to recreate the magic experienced under Matt Rhule. For that reason, look for them to win a tight one over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, but won’t cover the 17.5-point spread at home in Waco.
Finally, we’ll see what the Oklahoma State football offense is all about. With Spencer Sanders at quarterback, Chuba Hubbard at running back and Tylan Wallace at wide receiver, this is the best bet of the bunch of the Big 12 slate. Swallow the 21 points and take the Pokes to win and cover, as Hubbard will demonstrate to all of us he is worthy of bringing the Heisman back to Stillwater.
