No. 1 quarterback in college football: Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
I mean, Trevor Lawrence not slotting in as the top quarterback in college football would be a travesty. Ever since he took the starting job from Kelly Bryant as a true freshman, the wunderkind at Clemson has done nothing but thrive.
Prior to the National Championship Game loss to LSU last year, Clemson had not suffered a single defeat with Lawrence at the helm. They were tested, sure — but the fact remains that, in a sport where anything can happen on a given Saturday, Lawrence has kept the Tigers almost entirely perfect.
That’s the case despite the fact that Lawrence was somewhat pedestrian, at least by his standards, early in the 2019 season. He came out of the gate a bit flat and throwing more interceptions than anyone expected. However, after a near loss to Sam Howell and UNC, Lawrence turned on the afterburners and was downright unstoppable prior to matching up with LSU.
It would be the shock of the century if Lawrence didn’t head to the NFL following this season as he’s destined to be the first overall pick. Having said that, his final act for Clemson should be his best yet.
With the departure of Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross’ injury, Lawrence is working with the most unproven group of weapons we’ve seen him play with. Given his elite talent and ability to make plays, however, he’ll make some stars out of his teammates. Expect Lawrence to be locked in from Day 1 and, as such, affirm every accolade that’s already been given to him.
