No. 10 quarterback in college football: Kellen Mond, Texas A&M

Kellen Mond took over as the starter under Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M full-time for the 2018 season and produced quite well. He only completed 57.3 percent of his passes, sure, but he threw for 3,107 yards, 24 touchdowns and only nine interceptions in 13 games for the Aggies. He also showcased his dual-threat ability, rushing for 474 yards and seven scores.

That performance as a sophomore raised expectations for what he could do if he took a step forward in the 2019 campaign. Unfortunately, he failed to accomplish that. He improved his efficiency to 61.6 percent but threw for fewer yards (2,897) and touchdowns (20) while still throwing nine picks and rushing for 501 yards and eight more trips into the end zone.

There’s no escaping the talent that Mond possesses, which is why the expectations for him are so high. His ability to elude pressure and make plays on the run, both with his arm and legs, are elite traits that make him a dangerous weapon. But he’s simply failed to progress as a pocket passer who can thrive without taking off and lead the offense consistently in that manner.

That’s what everyone will be looking for from Mond in the 2020 season. Texas A&M certainly benefits from not having the nightmarish schedule they endured last season, which should help the quarterback. However, the Aggies’ ceiling will hinge upon whether or not their quarterback is able to live up to his obvious potential.
