Dodgers late push for Rangers’ Lance Lynn falls short

The Dodgers failed in their quest to land Lance Lynn

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Lance Lynn was one of the more notable names in trade rumors at the deadline. His team enters Monday with a 12-21 record and his 1.93 ERA in eight starts made the veteran an obvious trade target.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, a team sporting the best record in baseball, were rumored to be in on Lynn. Then came the actual deadline Monday afternoon and fans were refreshing their Twitters feeds as fast as possible. The deadline came and went without Lynn leaving the Rangers.

Lance Lynn won’t help the Dodgers in 2020

Lynn arrived in Texas last season and finished with an impressive 16-11 record and a 3.67 ERA. He is also under contract through 2021 and was seen as more than a rental. However, the price tag was reportedly just too high on the 33-year-old.

The Dodgers should be just fine without Lynn. Landing him simply would have been a bonus.

Dustin May has a 2.83 ERA in seven starts and Clayton Kershaw is looking amazing with a 1.80 ERA in five starts. The only starter truly struggling is Ross Stripling with his 5.61 ERA.

The Dodgers currently own a 26-10 record and have a five-game lead over the San Diego Padres. The Colorado Rockies are third in the division at 17-17, meaning the Dodgers need to have a total collapse to miss the postseason.

It makes sense the Rangers had a high price on Lynn. The team is struggling this year, but he can return in 2021 and help them compete. His name will also come up in trade talks next summer and there is just no rush to move him. He can even be traded in the offseason as the Rangers can take time to set a price while not in the midst of a season.

The Dodgers will be fine without Lynn and he will likely remain on the team’s radar moving forward.
