Nick Saban led a march for social justice with Alabama football players.
Nick Saban and members of the Alabama football team marched for social justice Monday.
Saban and Alabama Crimson Tide student-athletes marched on Monday to Foster Auditorium. The images from the march were powerful with Saban marching in front of several of his players and other athletes on campus, right to the same auditorium where former Alabama governor George Wallace stood at the doorway to prevent the state’s flagship university from being integrated.

Alabama student-athletes marched together to end social injustice.
From the march from the Mal M. Moore Athletic Complex to Foster Auditorium, the message got across that Alabama athletics will no longer tolerate racial injustice in the world. Saban, many players, as well as Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne took part in the march to Foster Auditorium. After arriving at Foster Auditorium, Saban and others took to the podium.
Saban said, “I’m like a proud parent today.” Outside linebacker Jarez Parks said, “No matter how educated, how skilled I am…I know my skin is a perception changer. Center Chris Owens would say, “Equality. That’s all we want.” Though the entire march and time at the podium lasted less than an hour, the message came across clear. Racial equality is a must and social injustice must end.
In the midst of a global pandemic, the march was well-attended and well organized. It was concise and to the point, to ensure to all of us that the message and the point of it could not be misconstrued. By having Saban out there in front to lead the march, it sends a long-last image of Monday’s march and something we’ll never forget. Alabama did good on Monday afternoon.
