One breakout star for each NFL team in the 2020 season
New York Giants – Sterling Shepard
Staying on the field has been the primary problem for Shepard, however, when he has been healthy the former Oklahoma Sooner has regularly shown why the Giants selected him in 2016. Much will depend on the play of a shaky Giants offensive line but, should Daniel Jones make strides in year two, Shepard will be in an excellent spot to enjoy a career year as the obvious top receiver on the depth chart.
New York Jets – Chris Herndon
Suspension and injury prevented third-year tight end Herndon from having the impact many expected of him in 2019 after he was named to the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie team in 2018. The former fourth-round pick appears certain to have a substantial share of the targets from Sam Darnold given the Jets’ lack of experience at wide receiver and the evidence from 2018 – when he averaged nine yards per target – suggests he should take full advantage of those opportunities.
Philadelphia Eagles – Josh Sweat
Sweat saw his rookie season wiped out by injury but the pass rusher flashed the promise that was evident at Florida State last year as he recorded four sacks. The Eagles added to their defensive line with the acquisition of Javon Hargrave and, as part of Philadelphia’s rotation of edge rushers, Sweat has the skill set to capitalize on the infusion of talent on the defensive interior.
