After plenty of speculation in the past several weeks, Mike Clevinger has been traded by the Cleveland Indians.

For fans waiting for a Major League Baseball trade deadline stunner, we’ve got it on Monday morning. Cleveland Indians starting hurler Mike Clevinger had been on the trade block, but it was all up in the air if a team would be able to land him.

Things just went official, though, with the San Diego Padres swooping in and trading for the hard-throwing right-handed pitcher. Several teams were hoping to add Clevinger before Monday’s deadline, but the Padres indeed were the team to win the sweepstakes.

The Padres now look ready to make some serious noise in the NL after adding Mike Clevinger to their rotation

This of course is a monster get for the Padres, who are currently 21-15 on the year and five games back of the Dodgers in the NL West standings.

Clevinger, who checks in at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, was in the middle of his fifth season taking the bump for the Indians. In his young career, he’s gone 42-22 with a 3.20 ERA and 584 strikeouts. This campaign, Clevinger is 1-1 in four starts with a 3.18 ERA and 21 strikeouts.

He was involved in some controversy earlier this month, though, after he broke the team’s coronavirus protocols on a road trip to Chicago. According to reports, Clevinger went out on the town with teammate Zach Plesac. This news caused several of their teammates to be upset with the pair.

For the Padres, they’ll look for the hurler to focus on bringing his best stuff and obeying team rules from the moment he gets to San Diego. There’s plenty of excitement with this young San Diego team, which of course includes the big bats of Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado.

MLB has been rocked by this massive trade. Let’s see if any more deals get done before the deadline.
