Reds making the right decision with Trevor Bauer at deadline
While it seemed like Trevor Bauer would be leaving Cincinnati, it appears the Reds won’t be trading him after all.
For the last several weeks, it almost seemed like a certainty that veteran starting pitcher Trevor Bauer would be traded by the Cincinnati Reds. Multiple teams had shown interest in the hard-throwing righty and rightfully so.
However, with the trade deadline on Monday, it doesn’t look like Bauer will be leaving town. Per MLB insider Jon Heyman, all signs are pointing to Cincinnati hanging on to Bauer and keeping him in the rotation. This is a brilliant move by the Reds front office.
Trevor Bauer has had a strong 2020 for the Reds, posting a 2.13 ERA
Bauer arrived to Cincinnati after being traded last season by the Cleveland Indians, a team he had been with since 2013. Things didn’t go too well for Bauer once he landed with the Reds, as he went 2-5 and had a 6.39 ERA with the club.
Things have changed dramatically this year, however, as Bauer holds a 3-2 record and impressive 2.13 ERA. Because of his strong showings on the bump, multiple teams had reached out to the Reds to see if he’d be available.
Cincinnati probably wasn’t wooed enough to part ways with the star hurler. For the Reds, they’re still hoping Bauer can help get them back to the postseason sooner than later and be a veteran presence for the rest of the clubhouse. Cincinnati is 15-19 on the year, five games back of the Cubs in the NL Central standings. Bauer has gone above and beyond to help them out this campaign. He’s also a fan favorite in Cincinnati, although in a contract year.

With strikeout celebrations like that, it’s easy to see why Bauer has so many Reds supporters. Fortunately for them, it doesn’t look like Bauer will be heading to a new team this season.
