2020 SEC football season preview, including a look at the best players, biggest games and predicted order of finish and ultimately who wins the SEC.
College football in the 2020 season has been dramatically altered in a number of ways, from conference-only schedules to two of the Power 5 conferences (Big Ten, Pac-12) elected to cancel football in the fall with the possibility of playing in the spring. All the while, though, SEC football has remained steadfast that they will play in the fall and they remain on course to do so.
As alluded to, SEC football will be played in the 2020 season with a 10-game conference-only schedule. Each team will play all six teams from their own division, as per usual, while adding two additional games against cross-divisional opponents that were added to the pair already present on the schedule. That will then make way for the SEC Championship Game and so on.
In this all-SEC slate, that might actually create more intrigue than otherwise. Fans and analysts alike often speak of the rigors that teams in the conference face when they go up against the regular conference slate. Now having 10 games in the conference could make things even more difficult and strenuous, which would subsequently add even more variance to the mix.
That’s even more intriguing given the state of the conference. While LSU dominated the SEC and the rest of the college football world last season, they must replace roughly 40 percent of last year’s roster amid departures and opt-outs. Meanwhile, Alabama and Georgia are immensely talented but have some transitions to make at quarterback. Then there are dark-horses such as Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M and maybe even Tennessee looming.
In the simplest terms, if you thought SEC football was wildly entertaining before, you better buckle in for the 2020 season because even more madness could be about to ensue. Yet, we have to do the best we can in uncertain times to project and predict what will happen. So here we are, diving into the awards, the standings and the overall finish for the conference this season as we preview SEC football for the 2020 season.
