Texas A&M football season preview 2020: Record predictions, depth chart analysis, breakout players
Texas A&M football season preview of the 2020 season, including record predictions, depth chart analysis and breakout players to watch this fall.
Depending on who are, the 2019 season went as expected or was a disappointment when evaluating the Texas A&M Aggies. In Jimbo Fisher’s second year as head coach, the Aggies did not see much improvement in terms of wins and losses compared to 2018.
The Aggies finished 2019 with an 8-5 record while going .500 in conference play, which earned them fourth place in the SEC West. However, the Aggies finished the season strong with a bowl win over Oklahoma State.
Now, the Aggies record had more to do with how good their opponents were than how good they were. The Aggies’ five losses came at the hands of Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and LSU. No matter who you are, that is a tough slate of games to get even just one win.
With that said, the Aggies are going to have to make an improvement and win at least one or two of their big games in 2020 if they want to be taken seriously as an elite football program.
The biggest thing Texas A&M has going for them is recruiting. After finishing with the No. 17 recruiting class in 2018, the Aggies followed it up with two top-10 recruiting classes in 2019 and 2020. Fisher is in Year 3 and now the majority of his guys are starting to take the field.
Texas A&M’s expectations should be the highest they have been since the 2013 season. The Aggies have their leading passer, rusher, and receiver all returning this season, as well as four of their five offensive linemen and the majority of 2019’s defense. If there was any year for the Aggies to make that jump from average to great, 2020 would be that year.
