Texas A&M football season preview 2020: Record predictions, depth chart analysis, breakout players
Game-By-Game Predictions
Game 1: vs Vanderbilt: The Aggies kick off their conference-only schedule with Vandy. With an experienced squad, do not expect a slow start on either side of the ball. Texas A&M starts off the season with a convincing win. 41-13, Aggies.
Game 2: at Alabama: Facing The Crimson Tide in the middle of the season is one thing, but two weeks in, that is a tough task in itself. The Aggies keep it close through the first three quarters but Alabama prevails at home. 24-17, Alabama.
Game 3: vs Florida: This is a tough back-to-back but this game will have a lot on the line for the Aggies. A win keeps their season alive, a loss sends them back to the drawing board and will have fans already looking ahead to 2021. It’s an instant classic and the Aggies pick up a HUGE win over the Gators. 38-34, Aggies.
Game 4: at Mississippi State: The Bulldogs will be one of the more surprising teams this season. With a new head coach in the driver seat, Mississippi State looks to change the narrative created over the past few seasons. But the narrative for this game is that the Aggies are too much for the Bulldogs. 31-21, Aggies.
Game 5: vs Arkansas: The Razorbacks have one of the hardest schedules in the history of sports and there is a good chance they finish the season with a goose egg in the win column. The Aggies are too much for Arkansas and pick up another double-digit victory. 45-19, Aggies.
Game 6: at South Carolina: The Gamecocks are one of those teams that have questions marks surrounding their program at the beginning of each season. Are they good? Bad? Average? Well by this time we will know how good the Gamecocks are…average. And average is not enough to upset Texas A&M. 30-17, Aggies.
Game 7: at Tennessee: This might be one of the greatest games played in 2020. The Vols seem to have turned their program around and are heading are a path to contend for the East division title for the next couple years. But honestly, Tennessee is still a year away and the Aggies pick up a crucial win on the road. 33-27, Aggies.
Game 8: vs Ole Miss: The Lane Kiffin show returns to the SEC as he takes over as the head coach for Ole Miss. Kiffin is an offensive mastermind and should get Ole Miss back to winning 9-10 games a season, but is unable to put up enough points to take down Texas A&M. 44-38, Aggies.
Game 9: vs LSU: Following their seven overtime thriller with LSU in 2018, the Aggies followed it up with a 43-point loss to the eventual national champs of 2019. Do not expect either of those results to take place this time around, but expect a somewhat shocking win over the Tigers as Texas A&M puts the rest of the SEC on notice. 31-24, Aggies.
Game 10: at Auburn: Texas A&M’s season has been near perfect and has College Station buzzing that the Jimbo-effect has finally shown itself. But the Auburn Tigers have plans of their own and end the Aggies season with a heartbreaking loss. 36-33 F/2OT, Auburn.
Final Record: 8-2, 3rd in SEC West
2020 is set to be a wacky season thanks to COVID-19. The Aggies could probably have had a 10-win season had the pandemic not shaken up their schedule for this season. However, that does not mean 2020 won’t be a success for Texas A&M.
Eight wins do not get the Aggies into the conference title game and with the expectations of having no bowl game, the last game of 2020 will be marked in the loss-column. However, eight wins do shine a light on what is to be expected for the Aggies for the years to come. Texas A&M may not contend for a conference or national title this season but will be in the talks come next Spring.
