The Cincinnati Bengals and star running back Joe Mixon have agreed to a four-year contract extension.

The offseason was highlighted by the Cincinnati Bengals when they selected quarterback Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Now, he’s got a running mate in the backfield who isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bengals and standout running back Joe Mixon have agreed to a four-year contract extension. With his new deal, Mixon will now be with the Bengals for at least the next five seasons.

Joe Mixon is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for the Bengals

Mixon has been a key offensive weapon for the Bengals ever since he arrived to the team in 2017. As a rookie, he rushed for 626 yards and four touchdowns, making seven starts. He followed that up with 1,168 yards in ’18 and 1,137 yards in ’19.

Last season, Mixon finished with five rushing touchdowns, adding 287 receiving yards and three more scores. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry too, which came behind a Cincinnati offensive line which struggled to stay healthy and perform at a consistent level throughout the season.

While the details of Mixon’s four-year extension with the Bengals have not been released, you can tell from his latest tweet that he couldn’t be happier to get things done with Cincinnati. He’ll be looked at to help make life much easier for Burrow, who the front office strongly believes has what it takes to be the next great signal-caller in the AFC North.

After posting consecutive 1,000-yard seasons for the Bengals and emerging as one of the best speedsters in the conference, Mixon enters the 2020 campaign with high expectations. He’ll look to silence all of his haters and prove he’s worthy of his new contract.
