Jerry Jones comments on Earl Thomas will only leave Cowboys fans guessing
Will the Cowboys end up making a move to try and sign star safety Earl Thomas before the season gets underway?
As soon as the Baltimore Ravens made the decision to release veteran defensive back Earl Thomas, folks everywhere immediately figured Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys would call his agent. The two parties have been linked together for years now.
Remember after a Seahawks-Cowboys game in 2017 when Thomas, still with Seattle at the time, went into the Cowboys locker room to speak with former head coach Jason Garrett? Sure you do. The clip of that visit went viral, and Thomas has made it no secret he’d love to return to Texas to play for his home team.
However, Jones and Co. don’t appear in any rush to try and get something done with the standout safety. In fact, Jones’ latest comments will only leave fans guessing on what the front office is thinking.
Earl Thomas would love to play for the Cowboys, but it remains up in the air if they’ll try and sign him
“Certainly he’s an outstanding football player,” Jones said on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan. “It would be a misleading thing to say we haven’t discussed him. It would be misleading to say that we have.”
What exactly are you trying to tell us there, Jerry? Those are not the words of a man who is confident bringing in Thomas will be a wise decision, but he’s also not ready to close the door on things going down either.
Thomas spent one year in Baltimore, earning Pro Bowl honors after posting 49 tackles and two interceptions. He’s a three-time All-Pro safety, known for delivering big hits and having a knack for getting to the ball.
However, a fight in practice with Chuck Clark, along with other off-the-field issues, resulted in the Ravens cutting ties with him. Now, Thomas is looking for a new place to call home. It’s completely up in the air if that will be Dallas.
