The legend of Fernando Tatis Jr. continues to grow in 2020.
When it comes to the MVP thus far of the 2020 MLB season, it’s a no-contest and an indisputable debate. The honor goes to San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. Baseball fans knew all about him ever since he was touted as a stud prospect following his trade from the Chicago White Sox. Entering the final month of the truncated campaign, Tatis has electrified the masses with his tremendous batting skills. But, some might forget that Tatis is equally as dangerous in the infield.
During Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, Tatis fielded a ground ball by catcher Anthony Bemboom and threw it to first base to end the game and secure the 11-4 victory. As it turns out, his toss to first clocked in at 95.4 mph, which is the hardest throw by an infielder this season.
Tatis is becoming a household name for MLB and could be the MVP front-runner in the National League as the Padres seek a playoff berth
Upon acquiring Tatis in exchange for a struggling James Shields, the Padres and their fan base knew the return they got was a steal. This season proves just that, as Tatis solidified himself as a generational talent.
Through 28 games this season, Tatis leads the league in home runs (13), runs scored (39), RBI (34), total bases (97), plate appearances (172) and at bats (150). Additionally, Tatis has accumulated a .307 batting average, .395 on-base percentage and .647 slugging percentage.
Opposing teams have been warned. They’re going to have to do some extra cardio if they want to run out a Tatis throw to first base because it’s not going to be an easy feat.
