Joe Burrow is expected to have a target on his back entering the 2020 season, and one of the players looking to take him down is a former LSU teammate.

Even before the LSU Tigers hoisted the CFP National Championship trophy, everyone knew that Joe Burrow was going to be the future starting quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals come the end of April. Sure enough, that’s exactly what happened, and he was immediately greeted to the AFC North by defenders of the division (i.e. Calais Campbell of the Baltimore Ravens). Burrow’s going to have a target on his back this season, and one is coming from a former teammate!

Following Jacksonville Jaguars training camp on Thursday, a first-round pick and edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson was asked who he looks most forward to sacking in his rookie season. His first choice was Ravens dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson. His second choice was Burrow, and his reasoning was simple.

“I never really got a chance to tackle him,” said Chaisson, via NFL.com.

Chaisson expected to make an immediate impact as a rookie

Burrow’s Bengals are slated to host Chaisson’s Jaguars in Week 4 of the regular season, which will definitely bring a tear to any LSU fan’s eyes.

The Jaguars had two first-round picks entering the 2020 NFL Draft after trading star cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams. Jacksonville selected his replacement in CJ Henderson with their ninth-overall pick, before using the 20th pick to draft Chaisson. The outside linebacker shined in his third season at Baton Rouge, where he recorded 60 total tackles (13.5 for loss), 6.5 sacks, two passes defended and one forced fumble. Chaisson did what he had to do on the defensive side of the ball, while Burrow did the rest on offense, leading the Tigers to a perfect season.

Jacksonville drafting Chaisson didn’t come as a shock, because the team was on the verge of parting ways with disgruntled edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue. The Jaguars placed the franchise tag on Ngakoue prior to the start of the 2020 league year, but he had no desire of playing for the team. Months after demanding a trade through social media, the Jaguars finally caved in and sent him to the Minnesota Vikings.

Now with Ngakoue off the team, Chaisson immediately slides in as a starting defensive end opposite 2019 first-round pick Josh Allen. Chaisson has the potential to become a dominant presence off the edge and could be a problem for opposing offensive lines for years to come.

Imagine Chaisson securing his first career sack at the expense of Burrow. Wouldn’t that be something?
