Luis Robert just hit a baseball out of Kauffman Stadium (Video)

Luis Robert hit the hardest baseball in the history of Kauffman Stadium.

When Luis Robert came up to bat for the Chicago White Sox, we had no idea this was possible.

The centerfielder for the South Siders pretty much crushed Jake Newberry of the Kansas City Royals out of Kauffman Stadium. Trust me. You will be utterly shocked by how hard this baseball was hit and the fact that it actually landed. This was a bona fide moonshot and one that certainly had a chance to go to Mars, Jupiter or even Pluto. Is Pluto still a planet? Whatever. Watch this.

The ball landed at the top of a freaking staircase. When you heard the ball hit the bat, Newberry looked like he gave up to the degree George Michael Bluth collapse on the floor of the model home on Arrested Development. When you hang a slider to a right-handed hitter with that much pop in his bat, he’s going to take your close to 500 feet deep into the early September night.

The White Sox entered play on Thursday night at 22-15 and a game back of the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central standings. Face it. Chicago is ending a lengthy postseason drought this year, and it’s not just because there are eight teams from each league making it in this year. The White Sox are damn good and have been one of the best watches in the Junior Circuit all season long.

When you have a rock star like Jason Benetti calling games in the booth, you deserve a baseball team that will let him show of those dulcet tones. When greatness coincides with greatness, extraordinary things happen. This may be the best White Sox team since the team that won the 2005 World Series over the Houston Astros before they joined the AL and banged on trash cans.

There are only a handful of batting orders with this much home-run power. The Minnesota Twins certainly have it in them, as illustrated by last year’s Bomba Squad. Over in the NL, you’ve got the Slam Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves who just had back-to-back three-home run games by two different players. All four clubs can park balls for days, but what Robert did was incredible.

Robert may never hit another home run as fine as the one he uncorked on at Kauffman Stadium.
