Pete Alonso caps dramatic Mets comeback in first game following Tom Seaver’s passing.
Pete Alonso might just be the man of the hour for the Mets and it’s come at a time when the Mets need a hero more than ever before. Alonso hit a perfect two-run homer into left field to win the game for the team who was grieving the loss of Tom Seaver.
The team was tied heading into extra innings after the Mets battled back from behind twice to secure the win 9-7. This win comes in the Mets first game since the death of legendary pitcher who Mets fans loving called Tom Terrific

The team paid respect to Seaver by smudging their knee with dirt as a nod to Seaver’s iconic pitching which often saw him with one dirty knee following an exceptional game.
“We’re actually family friends with the Seavers,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “In the ’81 strike, my dad was a National League rep and the Seavers came and stayed with us for like a week. I was 8 years old. Tom and I were out messing around, and Tom was on a moped. I actually jumped on the back to get on the moped with him and burnt my calf on the muffler. And I still have the scar.”
