Nebraska football got the “saucy nugs” guy to advocate for the return of the Huskers and an end to boneless wings at tailgates.
Nebraska isn’t winning on the football field right now, but they’re winning on the internet.
On Friday, the Huskers enrolled the help for the “saucy nugs” guy, who went viral for speaking out against the boneless wings phenomenon, to endorse more football and better tailgating.
“My name is Ander Christensen. I love football because I love tailgates,” the viral sensation said in a video posted to Nebraska’s Twitter account.
“Tailgates mean wings. Just like a wing without a bone is just a saucy nug, a Saturday without Husker football is just a Saturday,” he continued. “I propose that 1) We bring college football back to Lincoln, 2) We never tailgate with saucy nugs. And 3) You stop calling me carrottop because the tops of carrots are green.”

Nebraska football took advantage of viral messaging.
Christensen turned his anti-boneless wings rhetoric towards college football for the first time on Friday, but it was inevitable. He’s right about wings and tailgates going together.
Earlier this week he made waves when his address before the Lincoln, Nebraska city council took aim at “mislabeled” cuts of meat like boneless chicken wings, which include no wing meat.
While not everyone will agree with the relative deficiencies of “saucy nugs,” the message is as close to unifying college football circles as possible at the moment. The rest of college football debates are far from simple.
Nebraska wants to play football this fall, so do Ohio State and Iowa. The rest of the Big Ten voted to cancel the season.
Thus began a neverending back and forth with the Big Ten waffling on their decision while three other Power 5 conferences move forward with their shortened seasons.
Nebraska may not get their wish. Not, at least, until the Big Ten presidents come to a decision on a new start date. Even then, tailgates won’t be welcome at college football for the foreseeable future.
With any luck, when tailgates do return, they’ll be full of true wings, not “saucy nugs.”
