College football DFS wide receiver picks September 5:

Top Tier:

Reggie Roberson has the biggest upside on the entire slate and it’s not even close. He had a good year last year despite playing second fiddle to James Proche all year. My only fear with Roberson is the same as with Buechele. They could be done by halftime, but there’s a chance Roberson breaks the slate by then anyway.

Damonte Coxie was one of my favorite non-Power Five receivers last year. He has good hands and a nose for the ball. His ceiling is almost as high as Roberson in what should be a closer game. If you don’t use both, take the savings with Coxie. You wont lose much.

Along with unproven QB’s, North Texas also has somewhat unproven receivers. Jaelon Darden will get a bulk of the targets, but I don’t think his ceiling is all that high. The Mean Green should run a lot early on and may not stop if they build a big lead.

Middle Tier:

Jonathan Adams closed the season strong for Arkansas State last year with five straight games in double digits in fantasy points. I do worry about what will happen with him with the unrest at QB. His rapport with Hatcher was good. Adams is a solid play here, but I’m nervous.

Xavier Gipson is likely the best player on either team in the SFA-UTEP game. His success is based on the QB getting him the ball, but I expect a big game from Gipson in this one.

Kylen Granson may be a tight end, but he’s still a big part of the SMU passing attack. Still, the fact that Rashee Rice is cheaper than him is baffling to me. I love Rice for the price here.

Middle Tennessee State is going to have to throw, but I really don’t know where the ball is going. We don’t have that affliction with UTEP. Justin Garrett hauled in a touchdown in three of his last four games last year. He’s a nice option in the middle tier tonight.

Bargain Shoppers:

Javen Banks closed last year with a touchdown in every game as well. With a better QB throwing him the ball this year, I think Banks could have a really nice game here considering the price.

Dahu Green, Calvin Austin, and Jacob Cowling are all listed as starters and are all cheap. Arkansas State will likely spread the ball around. UTEP will throw more to Garrett, but Cowling is a nice home run threat on the cheap. Austin is dangerous just because Memphis loves to spread the ball around and Pop Williams took a leave of absence. That means a lot more targets for Austin.

Jerreth Sterns hauled in 105 passes for Houston Baptist last year. He’s by far their most productive receiver and is stupid cheap. If you believe that the Huskies are going to have to throw a lot, Sterns could be a monster on this slate.
