ESPN’s College GameDay is coming to your city, Wake Forest football!
Wake Forest football finally gets to host ESPN’s College GameDay vs. Clemson football.
In an unprecedented move, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will be the site of College GameDay for the first time ever. The iconic ESPN college football pre-game show will be setting up at the 50-yard line of Truist Field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Chris Fallica shared with us there are only eight Power 5 programs that have not hosted GameDay with Wake being crossed off.

With @CollegeGameDay headed to Wake Forest next week, there are now only eight Power Five schools from which the show has not originated - Cal, Duke, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia.

Will we see more first-time College GameDay setups this season in 2020?
When looking at Fallica’s tweet, there are four other Power 5 teams who could be first-time hosts to College GameDay. Those would be the Duke Blue Devils, the Kansas Jayhawks, the Syracuse Orange and the Virginia Cavaliers. Though none of these four programs, and Wake Forest included, are championship-caliber, we can expect at least one of them to get their day in the sun in 2020.
If we’re looking for the next one to be crossed off the list, it has to be Virginia. Bronco Mendenhall’s Cavaliers team won the ACC Coastal last year and will begin the season as a ranked team once the Big Ten and Pac-12 teams are no longer factored into the AP Poll. Maybe the date between the division rival North Carolina Tar Heels on Halloween could be spooktacular?
Overall, it will be the weirdest college football season of our lives, so why not give these five teams their chance. It might be pulling teeth to get a game in Syracuse or at Duke this year, unless either team is good and there is a compelling matchup. Even if Kansas is terrible, the Jayhawks will host the Iowa State Cyclones and the Texas Longhorns for College GameDay‘s consideration.
Wake Forest football should be thrilled to host College GameDay, even in a global pandemic.
