3. Roberto Duran (103-16, 70 KOs)

Roberto Duran is one of the most intriguing boxers in history. He packed a devastating punch and was often unpredictable in and out of the ring.

Duran grew up in El Chorrillo, Panama, in absolute poverty. He ditched school early in life and spent much of his youth in the streets before finding the inside of a boxing gym. He didn’t have much of an amateur background but loved to fight.

Duran is a throwback fighter who learned through experience. He figured things out through trial and error on his own until he connected with legendary trainer Ray Arcel who helped take him to the next level. Arcel helped grow Duran’s boxing I.Q.

Duran won titles in four divisions. He might be the best lightweight of all time, but he loved food and had to step up in weight many times throughout his career. Fortunately for him, he had such extreme power in his punches that it transferred well into higher divisions.

Duran was his own biggest enemy. His career was a rollercoaster that oscillated between extreme laziness and gritty dedication. He almost had to taste defeat before he could push himself to new heights.

He owns wins over Ken Buchanan, Saoul Mamby, Sugar Ray Leonard, Iran Barkley, and many other amazing boxers. When he was young and focused, there wasn’t a better fighter than Duran around.

Duran’s dominance throughout the years and multiple divisions earn him a spot as one of the best all-time boxers.
