College football betting results against the spread week 1 2020

The interesting college football betting season got started last weekend. This wont get going in earnest until the SEC starts at the end of the month, but you know me. I pick every game because I never know just which one you’re looking to bet on.

Here we will recap week 1 of the 2020 college football betting season. The winner against the spread will be in BOLD. My result will follow. Let’s get to it!

In case you want to follow along:
Week 1

South Alabama at Southern Mississippi(-15.5): HIT! The Jags won their first road game in almost three years and looked pretty good doing it. Jalen Tolbert took apart the Eagles secondary.

Middle Tennessee State at Army(-3.5): HIT! I should have gone much heavier on this one. Army looked really good in this one, proving it’s hard to prepare for an option on short notice.

SMU(-21.5) at Texas State: MISS! The Bobcats home magic strikes again! SMU’s defense didn’t play poorly. Texas State just looked like a much-improved team.

Arkansas State at Memphis(-17.5): MISS! I was flip-flopping on this throughout the week, but ended up staying with Memphis. On the bright side, Rodrigues Clark looked like another in a long line of good Memphis backs.

BYU at Navy(-1.5): MISS! This was the worst loss ever for Ken Niumatololo in 13 years at Navy. Malcolm Perry meant the world to this offense and it showed.

This week’s totals follow the number. The season totals are in parentheses.

1. 0-1 (0-1) = -1
2. 0-0 (0-0) = 0
3. 1-1 (1-1) = 0
4. 1-1 (1-1) = 0
5. 0-0 (0-0) = 0

I lost a total of one betting point on the week, going 2-3 overall in the opener. I’m still up 19 betting points in a shade over five years of doing this. Week 1 is always tough. It’s even worse in 2020.
