Fantasy POV: Chiefs’ talent will be too much for Texans in NFL season opener
A Kansas City victory is practically guaranteed in the NFL season opener Thursday night, because the football talent on the Chiefs is decisively better than the talent on the Texans.
Despite the coronavirus, approximately 15,000 fans are expected to be in Arrowhead Stadium cheering forthe Chiefs and their attempt to repeat as NFL champions.
Four of the top five players in this game will be wearing Kansas City uniforms based on the evaluation of several 12-team mock drafts and draft lists developed by several DFS sites, including FanSided’s NFL preview.
Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce are listed ahead of Houston running back, David Johnson in football draft kits. Here is a pregame assessment of the two teams personnel.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, running back
- The rookie running back from LSU was selected 32nd in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft based on his versatility as a rusher and a pass receiver.
- Consistently selected in the FIRST round in mock drafts and fantasy football draft kits.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 9
Tyreek Hill, wide receiver
- Many preseason draft kits listed Hill as the 4th best wide receiver in the NFL.
- Consistently selected in the SECOND round in mock and fantasy football draft kits.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 14
Patrick Mahomes, quarterback
- The Super Bowl MVP is healthy and caused a lot of fantasy football owners to break with tradition and select him in an earlier round.
- Consistently selected in the SECOND round in mock and fantasy football league drafts.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 19
Travis Kelce, tight end
- Simply the best tight end in the NFL and was frequently ranked with the NFL’s best wide receivers.
- Consistently selected in the SECOND round in mock and fantasy football league drafts.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 20
Harrison Butker, placekicker
- One of the NFL’s best kickers and often the first kicker selected in fantasy football drafts
- Selected as high as No. 74 and as low as No. 182.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 122
Mecole Hardman, wide receiver
- Not a No. 2 or 3 receiver, but there was plenty of interest in Hardman as a No. 4 WR in fantasy football drafts.
- He settled in as a THIRTEENTH round pick and a potential “sleeper” pick.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 148
Sammy Watkins, wide receiver
- Watkins gives any fantasy football owner depth at wide receiver
- Selected as high as No. 137 and forecasted as low as No. 217
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 164
HOUSTON TEXANS
David Johnson, running back
- A lot of Texan fans are depending on former Arizona Cardinal David Johnson to lead Houston’s running attack.
- Draft experts and fantasy football owners agree on Johnson’s value by picking him in the FOURTH round in mock drafts and fantasy draft kits.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 46
Deshaun Watson, quarterback
- On a number of preseason draft sites, Watson was listed as the fifth-best quarterback in the NFL.
- Apparently, fantasy team owners are in agreement as they consistently used an early pick in the SIXTH round to draft him.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 61
Will Fuller V, wide receiver
- Fuller must compensate for the departure of Deandre Hopkins. He has never been more than a No. 4 wide receiver on fantasy football teams in previous years.
- He bounced around in the drafts before settling in as a SEVENTH round pick.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 82
Brandin Cooks, wide receiver
- Cooks joined the Texans to give Houston another experienced wide receiver.
- His value puts him directly behind Fuller as an EIGHTH round pick.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 88
Duke Johnson, running back
- Duke Johnson is intended to be the No. 1 alternate to David Johnson at running back.
- In fantasy football drafts, he was a TENTH round draft pick.
- Average fantasy football draft position – No. 116
Randall Cobb, wide receiver
Average fantasy football draft position – No. 191
PREDICTION
