The reigning Super Bowl champion started off his defense tour on Thursday night at the expense of the Houston Texans.
Seven months ago, the Kansas City Chiefs broke a 50-year curse, as they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 54 to win their second-ever Lombardi Trophy. Credit can be given to quarterback Patrick Mahomes reawakening in the fourth quarter to lift the Chiefs to a miraculous comeback. Now that they’ve been there and done that, Mahomes and Kansas City are laser-focused on returning to the big game this season to create the next NFL dynasty. The first team in their way are the Houston Texans.
On Thursday night in the NFL’s regular-season opener, Mahomes threw a short touchdown pass to Travis Kelce in the second quarter for his first passing score of the season.
The first of many touchdowns for Mahomes
With this first passing touchdown out of the way, the real question is how many he’ll throw once the regular-season reach it’s conclusion. Will it be over the 26 scores he accumulated last season? Or will he reach the 50-touchdown threshold that he did back in 2018, which netted him the NFL MVP award?
The Chiefs entered the 2020 season as the heavy favorites to win Super Bowl 55 this season. So far, it looks like they have a strong shot at doing so.
