College football Week 2 has top 25 teams finally getting back to action. But which ranked teams are on upset alert this weekend?
The beginning of the unprecedented 2020 college football season got underway over the past two weeks with some Group of 5 programs taking the field and delivering plenty of entertainment. But Week 2 of the season features the debut of two Power 5 conferences, the ACC and Big 12. As such, that means we get our first top 25 matchups of the year. With that also comes the opportunity for upsets.
No teams ranked in the top 25 of the initial college football rankings play one another in Week 2 but that doesn’t mean there isn’t upset potential. After all, this is an offseason that’s been unlike any other with the effects of COVID-19. Subsequently, the preparation for this season has been changed, which could be seen in on-field performance.
Of course, the potential for upsets in several games that top 25 teams are playing this week really isn’t there. The Oklahoma Sooners are going to boat-race Missouri State and the Texas Longhorns will likely do the same to UTEP. And though Clemson vs. Wake Forest is a road ACC game, the Tigers should run away with that one as well.
Even with a lighter slate (six ranked teams) of top 25 college football games, though, there is still the chance that some upsets could pop off as Power 5 competition ramps up. Specifically, there are teams that have big questions entering the year and coming off an offseason with less time to answer those questions that have matchups against live ones.
Taking all of that into account, these three college football teams are getting put on upset alert in Week 2 of the 2020 season.
