3 running backs who deserve extensions next after Alvin Kamara and Dalvin Cook
By Scott Rogust
Aaron Jones has been in the NFL for three years, but he really didn’t make an impact until the 2019 season. He never received a quality amount of carries under former head coach Mike McCarthy, but that all changed once Matt LaFleur made his way to Green Bay from the Tennessee Titans in 2019.
Jones started in every game last season, and he led the entire NFL in rushing touchdowns (16) and scrimmage touchdowns (19). Additionally, he accumulated 1,084 yards on 236 carries and 49 receptions for 474 receiving yards. Jones’ performance backed up the belief from Packers fans that McCarthy should have utilized him more in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Following this upcoming season, Jones is set to hit the open market. Jones said during a recent appearance on NFL Network that the Packers and his agent are working towards a contract extension. When that will come? Who knows. But it appears that both parties want to commit to each other for the foreseeable future. Jones putting up similar numbers this season should help expedite a deal.
